Cary Glen – Images of a lovely North Carolina lake

Cary Glen has absolutely no significance in cosmic terms when you look at it. At best, it is a small lake in the middle of a bustling community. However, this is the place where I spend my evenings, except for the four months of winter, for a stroll that helps me leave work behind. I came across this lake when I went on a walk with my wife and since then I have been a regular visitor here. It has a greenway that run all around it, accounting for a 2.7 mile walk. Mansions overlook this lovely lake all around but despite being at the heart of a well-populated locality, it feels pristine and unspoilt.

North Carolina gets abundant rainfall throughout the year and that is probably one reason the landscape is dotted with lakes. I have always loved lakes for the flora and fauna that they shelter as well as for their power to rejuvenate you when you spend quality time on their shores.

There is a healthy population of Canada Geese (Branta Canadensis) on Cary Glen. They roost in the shallow end during the night and swim around during the daytime, mostly in large flocks. There is an abundance of bunnies, a few tortoises, hawks, and there was a day when I was lucky to spot an Osprey fishing. And then there was otter, which was spotted swimming far out in the lake.

I can’t help but envy the folks living in the apartments and mansions along the lake. The view is often breathtaking at sunrise and sunset. In Spring, the rose bushes along the lake in bloom make for a spectacular sight.

Most days, I time my evening walk to the day’s sundown. Since I do not carry my camera most of the time, the mobile phone camera serves me well on days when, unexpectedly, the setting sun lays out a show of fireworks.

And then there are days when the skies are blue and the winds are sedate, when the water reflects the entire sky like a mirror.

I might move out of this locality in a couple of months, but this would remain my favorite spot at Cary, North Carolina for sure.
