It was under a Peepal tree that Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment and became the Buddha, the Enlightened One. Well, we know now that enlightenment wasn’t exactly the word (overzealous scholars were semantically mistaken in translating it from the Sanskrit). What they struggled to describe was a deep spiritual awakening from a sensual slumber, from the drugged somnolence of the material world of desire and rootedness.
September, for us, is about such a late awakening, mostly because we were so smitten with watching the monsoon clouds beat a retreat from our skies (and they’re still not done making their presence felt). The last clouds linger still, unsure of their place in a changing sky. But this light — this lovely post-monsoon light — latticed by the canopy of the Peepal Tree into a gossamer curtain of rays, inspires us.
This Peepal Tree is our leading light this September. May it be yours, too.
Download it in three sizes for your desktop, laptop and iPad screens.
